Favourite Places: Gartine, Amsterdam
Words & Photography by Maja Moliere
In a quiet and narrow alleyway off Kalverstraat, Amsterdam’s busiest shopping street, lies a charming little lunchroom called Gartine. A single table with two chairs and a few plants in wicker baskets make up the outside area in front of the entrance. Inside, Gartine is a small cozy place, the light doesn’t reach far. The aged wood furniture goes hand in hand with the old chandelier and oil paintings on the wall. Getting a table on short notice can be hard, so it is highly recommended to make a reservation. Once seated, you can enjoy an exquisite breakfast, brunch or high tea. The owners harvest their produce as fresh as possible from their own garden. The dedication and love for their work is apparent in the whole place, as well as throughout the pages of their beautifully styled cookbook, inspired by the dishes they serve here.
